The minimum age for this study is 18
years
old. This study investigates the relationship between various
personal beliefs and characteristics and attitudes toward people
of different sexual orientations (heterosexual people, lesbians,
and gay men). Specifically, we are studying the way that people’s
beliefs may impact what they think and feel about lesbians, gay
men, and heterosexual individuals. By assessing the
interrelationships among the measures in this study, we will
better understand the way that individuals’ personal beliefs and
characteristics impact their attitudes toward lesbians, gay men,
and heterosexual individuals.
The study should take about 60 minutes. During the study you will
be asked to complete one 15-minute online task which involves
matching words and symbols representing different kinds of sexual
orientations; and to complete several questionnaires. After you
have provided these responses, you will receive more information
about the purpose of the study and can contact the primary
investigator to answer any questions you may have. If, for any
reason, you decide you do not want to participate in this study,
you may discontinue it at any time, even after the study has
begun. Participation is completely voluntary.
ALL participants may be entered into a raffle to win one of three $25
Amazon.com gift cards, if you provide an email address after you have
finished. Email addresses are kept confidential and separate from all
data. At the conclusion of the study, three email addresses will be
drawn at random, and a $25 Amazon.com electronic gift card will be sent
to each of the winners. After the raffle, email address information will
be destroyed.
